ABOUT ME

 

I am a ‘career-change’ artist, having started my professional life as an investment banker. After six years of working in the City, it slowly dawned on me that I would be far happier doing what I have always loved: making things. Having explored various media such as painting and sculpture, I discovered that glass was the most fulfilling and satisfying medium for me.

 

Working with kiln-formed glass poses an exciting creative challenge: making the glass do what I want it to do whilst respecting its physical properties once it is subjected to heat and gravity inside the kiln. It is always a thrill to open the kiln and see the fired piece, completely transformed by the intensity of the heat.

 

The work in my current collection has an emphasis on texture, making the pieces very tactile. Inspiration for my work can come from the most unusual sources, ranging from the natural world to the texture of a pavement! Zooming in on seemingly ugly or mundane surfaces can reveal an exciting array of patterns and textures which, when translated into the medium of glass, highlights beauty in the most ordinary things.

 

Highly textured surfaces are set against a smooth, glossy backdrop, order contrasts with randomness and light stands out against darkness. From small dishes to large platters and centrepieces, each item is hand-made, unique and decidedly eye-catching!
